A paint defect is in many cases due to a number of causes. In some cases several defects can occur simultaneously, making the cause difficult to determine, thereby making the solution difficult to identify. Nevertheless, It is best practice to identify and determine the cause of defects before attempting to resolve the problem.
While paint defects can also be due to unsuitable paints or coatings being specified for the wrong surface, the more frequent problems are caused by an operative error such as poor surface preparation; and the incorrect preparation and application of paints.
Below are a few of the more common defects that can occur. Click on the image(s) to view detailed explanations of each defect, with possible causes, and suggested remedial actions.
